These guys never get the credit they deserve... starting in the late 70's as Stryker (years before Stryper came along!), they had a crunchy, dark, and heavy sound that had more in common with Kiss's 'Creatures of the Night' than with any Christian metal bands of the time. Check out my interview with Stryken drummer Joey Knight at http://www.christianmetalmayhem.com!

Released in a time when hairspray and spandex were hot and Christian rock/metal could be found hidden under the counter at a Christian bookstore so people weren't offended. While the names are similar, Stryken are not Stryper clones...even their 'glam' image is different than Stryper's. 'First Strike' is raw, heavy glam with a metallic edge. 'Crush the head of satan!' and 'Rock on!'

It's true, Stryken did come before Stryper. They were originally called Stryker (after the Streiker brothers) but Janice Sweet (Stryper's manager, mother of the Sweet brothers) threatened to sue them because the name was similar to Stryper (through Stryker came first, Stryper attained greater success), so they just changed the last 'R' to an 'N' to avoid a lawsuit, and that's how they got the name Stryken.

I had this album when they came into the stores (wore out 3 cassettes). If anyone still has a copy that sounds great, and can burn it onto a CD for me, please email me ASAP! I would like to have this album on CD format. Thanks, and R.O.C.K. (Reaching Other for Christ's Kingdom). NuVineMinistries@hotmail.com Kev (the INZANE One)

One of the worst recordings that I have ever heard. Such poor quality.... Sounds like it was echoed in someone's basement. F-

wanna know why people make fun of christian metal? look no further than this album. Still, despite the cheese and the poor recording I have a soft spot for old school heavy metal. 6/10

Finally I was able to hear this album, and the wait was worth it! Despite the poor quality of the sound, this is a very very good album (including the bonus tracks the remastered version has; not all, but many). If you like 80s melodic heavy metal, you will like this one.

The sound of the album seems to be one of the most common issues of the comments above and they're quite right IMO...nothing really extraordinaire musically talking too, just more of a curiosity for the band rather than what i was gonna expect from it...best shots are tracks 2(nice ballad),4,6,8 & 9(nice ballad too)...70/100
