Good debut...but the second disc is far superior...both are difficult to find these days.....

One of the best Christian rock albums, ever. Perfect production, a twin guitar attack, and Stephen Patrick's acidic vocals all equal an unparalled debut. Holy Soldier's finest.

This was the second Christian Metal album that I ever heard back in junior high. It's a glam metal classic with the blazing guitars and emotive vocals that define the best in this genre!

I heard good buzz about this band, so I got the CD. Holy Soldier has its moments, like 'The Pain Inside of Me' - one of the best ballads ever by a Christian band! Production could be better, though; the singing gets swallowed up too often by the guitars. HS 'out-clevers' itself. They throw odd riffs into the melodies, but it mostly doesn't work. Not many hooks, either. Except for 'Stranger' (which SHOULD go longer than 3:25!) and 'Pain, &c.', I haven't spun this one much. Disappointing.

I saw the video for 'See No Evil' on a compilation tape and liked the song, so I bought the album... and was disappointed.

THIS RECORD IS GREAT CHRISTIAN METAL. IT REALLY ROCKS!!! THE TRACK 'STRANGER' IS ABOUT ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS IN EXISTANCE. IT IS VERY CATCHY WITH MEMORABLE GUITAR AND GREAT, GREAT LYRICS. ANOTHER GOOD TRACK IS 'EYES OF INNOCENCE'-PERFECTLY DONE POWER BALLAD. ALSO THE CLOSING SONG 'WE ARE YOUNG, WE ARE STRONG' THOUGH SORT OF ANOTHER TEENAGE ANTHEM SONG IS STILL VERY GOOD. IF YOU CAN FIND A COPY AND STILL LOVE THE OLD 'HAIR BAND' METAL AS I DO THIS IS WELL WORTH HAVING.

A great 80's hair band/glam metal album. Very well produced, excellent vocals and blistering guitars. A tough album to find, but worth the search.

Great, great record!! I saw these guys on a local TV show and went to buy their record, even before I knew they were Christian. I heard the song See No Evil on this show and didn't realize the lyrics were Christian. Imagine my shock and delight when I opened the tape and put it in and out comes Stranger, a song about Jesus Christ!! This record could have stood up to most of the secular metal of those days and held its own. Its a great release from a band who went away far too quickly.

There should be a listing for Siloam: 'Sweet Destiny.' Excellent, melodic hard rock all the way! If you dig bands like Angelica and Holy Soldier, get 'Sweet Destiny,' by Siloam. I believe you'll be glad you did. :-)

I gave HS another try after a long hiatus and would change my opinion somewhat: 'Stranger' is still too short; 'Pain, etc.' is still a fantastic ballad. The other songs are good Hair Metal; though, a couple are so-so. The singing doesn't seem to me now to get swallowed up by the guitars. However, I don't think it's a classic of Christian metal. Very good debut with some promise for better things . . . alas.

I remember getting a pre-release cassette single of 'Tear Down the Walls.' I was floored! Patrick's voice along with the heavy, yet commercially accessible metal was infectious. Still love this CD. Not a song that I don't like on it. It just drips emotion and melody. Produced by David Zaffiro, I always wished that the guitars were just a tad more up front in the mix. Minor complaint. This is one of my all time favorite CDs. http://www.nolifetilmetal.com/holysoldier.html

I agree Scott! When I bought this on cassette, I went thru 4 copies from listening to this group. Now, I have it on CD, and I am going to kick-it even more. Anyone wants to contact me, email me at: NuVineMinistries@hotmail.com. I was once into the occult from the world's heavy metal, but thru the Master's grace, I AM BORN IN HIS FAMILY!! I go around sharing my testimony of His power of deliverance. Kevin

Great band. I love them, and if the second disc ins better, then i better get it, cuz I absolutely(excuse my spelling) loved it. I like stranger and we are young, we are strong the best, heck, i like the whole thing the best. I really like how thye got a political song in there, see no evil. Love the double guitar attack. Bass is cool, and like the drums too. their just cool.

Both of Holy Soldier's first two releases are amazing. Terrific songwriting, totally energized rock and roll, and ridiculously good, soulful and likable vocals from Steven Patrick... Probably my favorite singer of all-time.

Considered a Christian glam/hair metal classic, and for good reasons: strong vocals from Stephen, a solid rhythm section from Andy and Terry, and melodic, ripping guitar work from Jamie and Michael. Ex-Bloodgood guitarist David Zaffiro did a fantastic job on the production, and this debut has a nice metallic edge! Good stuff!

This was one of my absolute favorite albums from the Christian Metal hair-band days- cheezy cover aside :-p Smokin' guitar, amazing drums, and good solid lyrics that dared to be a bit more real than alot of artists were willing to do. (They didn't just talk about avoiding temptation- 'Lies' and 'Love Me' weren't afraid to admit to BEING tempted and the pain and redemption after GIVING IN to it) Love every song on the album, but 'When the Reign Comes Down' is my fave.
